FEBEV is the National Belgian Federation of slaughterhouses, cutting plants and wholesalers for pork, bovine, sheep and equine animals. FEBEV has 130 members from the three Belgian regions; collectively they represent more than 90% of the national turnover of the red meat industry.
The Federation’s offices are located in the heart of Brussels, where daily operations are managed by a team of specialists.
The food industry, and moreover the meat sector, is characterised by a great number of stakeholders, and FEBEV defends its interests in negotiating with authorities and stakeholders. FEBEV also channels information to its members and assists them when problems or questions arise.
FEBEV plays an active role in supporting Belgian meat exports. With over 60 destination countries for exports, Belgium is a recognised meat exporter. FEBEV assists operators to implement export procedures in close collaboration with the FASFC (the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain).
FEBEV also plays an active role in the search for new markets, in collaboration with governmental specialised organisations such as the Belgian Meat Office (BMO), Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), and the Walloon Export Agency (AWEX). On a European level, FEBEV is a member of the European Livestock And Meat Trading Union (UECBV).
FEBEV oversees a unique monitoring system and a self-checking guide for the meat sector as a means of providing extra guarantees to meat clients worldwide.
