OI INTERCARNEITALIA was born in 2017 and began the path to official recognition by the Ministry of Agriculture by submitting an official application in January 2019.
It was founded at the initiative of breeders members of AOP ITALIA ZOOTECNICA, the only Association of Producers’ Organisations recognised by Italian authorities, who suggested the creation of an Interprofessional organisation to the meat processing industry, involving representatives of ASSOCARNI and ASSITAMA, the two main associations representing the majority of Italian slaughterhouses.
In January 2020, OI INTERCARNEITALIA was officially recognised as the only Interprofession of the beef sector in Italy by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Activities
INTERCARNEITALIA works closely with the scientific world through its advisory committee of academics and experts in zootechnics as well as with consumers through its consumer advisory committee composed of consumer associations.
Our activities are structured by product groups, OI INTERCARNEITALIA, recently expanded its activities by establishing the « White meat veal » section (age 0-8 months), which represents 76.2% of all Italian production.
The other section, the main one, is of « Adult Beef Cattle » (age 12-24 months) which accounts for 71.09% of all Italian production.

OI INTERCARNEITALIA has been a strong promoter of SELMA’s establishment since 2020. Now that SELMA has been launched and its foundations laid down, SELMA will be an important reality for the future of European bovine livestock.
