Polskie Zrzeszenie Producentów Bydła Mięsnego (PZPBM), The Polish Beef Association (PBA) is an agricultural organisation operating since 2005. The organisation brings together beef farmers (beef cattle, young fattening cattle, suckler cows). PZPBM gathers 800 members and works in partnership with with 12 slaughterhouses and beef processors.
PZPBM seeks support from governmental and non-governmental administrations for the promotion of sustainable, high-quality beef that meets specific criteria.
Activities
In cooperation with other entities, PZPBM played a key role in initiating the Polish Beef Agreement 2022 and the Polish Beef Strategy 2030. We are dedicated to analysing and addressing issues within the beef cattle sector, actively working on solutions across the value chain. A major milestone for PZPBM is the Quality Meat Program (QMP), established in 2008 as Poland’s official national beef quality system, supported by the Common Agricultural Policy across several funding periods. 1080 beef farmers have been awarded the Quality Meat Program certification.
To enhance the level of innovation in the Polish beef industry, PZPBM, together with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and the University of Warmia and Mazury, developed and implemented a six-year research project titled « Optimisation of Beef Production in Poland in line with the ‘from farm to fork strategy. This project led to the adoption of the EUROP classification system in Poland and the implementation of a quality management system in slaughterhouses.
PZBM engages internationally, representing Polish beef producers in European bodies with European industry organisations and research & development units. Representatives of PZPBM effectively represent Polish beef producers in the work of the COPA COGECA Promotion and Beef and Veal Working Groups.
The association operates internationally in cooperation with European industry organisations and research & development units.
The Platform is a member of the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability. For over 10 years, PZPBM has also been organising the annual International Beef Forum, where challenges for the sustainable beef industry in the EU and Poland have been discussed for over 10 years. This Forum is also a platform to exchange expertise and seek solutions to common challenges.
Testimonials
Tomasz Rasiński (beef producer, PZPBM Vice President)
As a beef farmer, it is important that the image of the entire beef sector is right for the market, but especially for consumers. The PZPBM carries out activities to raise the awareness of value chain actors about sustainable beef production and related projects.
Łukasz Karmowski (beef producer)
Sustainable beef livestock is becoming not only a market differentiator, but more importantly a response to market and consumer needs. On my farm, together with PZPBM, I run activities and projects related to reducing environmental impacts and carbon sequestration.
